Ultimate Alaska by Land & Sea | June 26-July 07, 2021

Since 1980, Siouxland Travel & Tours has been organizing and leading custom group tours all over the world. Join us in 2021 as we explore some of Alaska’s most magnificent must-see destinations and hidden treasures. With its breathtaking coastline carved by massive tidewater glaciers over thousands of years, iconic wildlife in their natural habitats, and a fascinating native culture, this Great Land will amaze, engage and delight you. We start our tour in the beautiful international city of Vancouver before setting sail on our seven-day northbound cruise on Holland America’s ms Westerdam. An elegant mid-sized ship designed not to tower over the scenery, but to bring you closer to Alaska’s natural wonders—from calving glaciers to breaching humpback whales. Following the cruise, we will spend three nights on land as we head deep into the heart of Denali National Park and Preserve, the jewel in Alaska’s crown.  At six million pristine acres, the Park is home to moose, caribou, mountain sheep, grizzly bears and North America’s highest peak, Mt. Denali, more than 20,000 feet high. This is the ultimate Alaskan Vacation you will never forget!

Monday, June 28
Today we will enjoy cruising the scenic Inside Passage, shaped by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of years ago. Today is a great day to explore the ship and all it has to offer. (B,L,D)

Tuesday, June 29
Our first port of call is Ketchikan, known as Alaska’s “First City”. The town is popular for sport fishing excursions, rich cultural sights of Native Alaskan nations, and great shopping. Historic Creek Street, a boardwalk built over the Ketchikan Creek, is a great place to find smoked salmon and lots of unique gifts and souvenirs. (B,L,D)

Wednesday, June 30
Our next stop is Juneau, one of the most remote and beautiful state capitals, entirely surrounded by water.  Juneau is known as the gateway to some of Alaska’s most magnificent wilderness areas.  Popular shore excursions include whale watching, exploring nearby Mendenhall Glacier, taking a dog sled ride, or trying your hand at fly fishing. (B,L,D)

Thursday, July 1
Skagway once served as the primary gateway to the legendary gold fields, and quickly grew into Alaska’s largest settlement. Today it has been reinvigorated for the visitor who wants to explore Alaska’s colorful history, pristine wildlife, and unrivaled natural beauty. Famous for the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, a classic narrow-gauge railway that traverses rugged mountains passes and cascading waterfalls as it connects Skagway to Whitehorse deep in the Yukon. This is a fascinating port of call with a lot to explore. (B,L,D)

Friday, July 2
Enjoy the day cruising in Glacier Bay which boasts more actively calving tidewater glaciers than anyplace else in the world. Enjoy a cup of pea soup on the deck while waiting for the monumental chunk of ice to split off a glacier and thunder into the sea below. National Park Service Rangers offer a full day of informative narration as you enjoy this World Heritage Site. (B,L,D)

Saturday, July 3
Our last day at sea will be a great opportunity to enjoy a variety of free classes, go to a workshop, book a refreshing spa treatment, or just relax with a good book on the ship. (B,L,D)

Sunday, July 4
This morning we disembark the cruise ship and begin our fully narrated land tour deep into the interior of Alaska. We will enjoy a stop in Anchorage for lunch and a short stop in Wasilla, home to the Iditarod Museum. We hope Mt. Denali will be in full view when we arrive in the quaint Alaskan town of Talkeetna for the night. (B,D)

Monday, July 5
Our morning begins with a relaxing breakfast and a few hours to enjoy Talkeetna. We will then board the glass domed Alaska Railroad for our beautiful narrated ride to Denali National Park, our home for the next 2 nights. A lively dinner theatre reenacting the settling of Alaska is the perfect ending to our busy day. (B,L,D)

Tuesday, July 6
Travel deep into the heart of Denali National Park for our comprehensive full day Tundra Wilderness Tour. Incredible scenery, a narrated history of the park road, and some of the best opportunities to view the park’s wildlife inhabitants await you. The “Big Five” animals of Alaska include Dall sheep, Grizzly Bears, Caribou, Alaskan Moose, and Gray Wolves. We hope to see them all! (B,L,D)
